My Photo Equipment
I currently use the Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 macro for my close up work. It’s a lightweight, sharp lens that also doubles as a good walk-around lens. The only downside is the working distance, most of my full 1:1 macros are shot about 4” from the subject. This works fine for stationary objects, but can be a challenge when shooting active ‘bugs’. I would eventually like to add a longer macro lens in the 150-180mm range. I also use the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS for walk around, portraits, and landscapes. I also use the EF 70-200 f/4.0L and 300 f/4.0L IS for telephoto shooting.
In 2006 I added an outboard flash assembly utilizing the Bogen/Manfrotto bracket and the 430EX with a Lumiquest softbox. This setup allows me to get handheld shots that would be impossible using a tripod and natural light, although tripod, natural light, MLU, remote shutter release shots ultimately look the best.
